The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Florida has fired Deputy Joshua Sacino for dereliction of duties and responsibilities and conduct unbecoming members of the agency. The investigation found that Sacino spent four hours one day parked in his patrol vehicle surfing the Internet. When asked to document his actions, Sacino told the supervisor that he stopped one car and gave the driver a warning. Later, he drove to Walmart, randomly selected a car and wrote a report saying the driver of the vehicle was “involved in drug activity.” After reviewing his bodycam video, supervisors confronted Sacino, who confessed to his lie. “It’s a serious matter,” said Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri. “Deputy Sacino did this for self-serving reasons, to cover up his lack of action and incompetence, without considering the consequences this report could have had on the concerned citizen or any citizen using that vehicle in the future.”
